CATTM Tourniquet
The Combat Application Tourniquet®, or simply CAT, is a one-hand tourniquet system for stopping or momentarily interrupting blood flow in emergency situations. An individually adjustable strap allows the tourniquet to be applied to all extremities. The winch system tightens a freely movable inner band to stop the flow of blood. Only one hand is needed to fix the toggle in place. During transport, the CATTM's hook and loop closure provides additional security.
Instructions:
In an emergency situation, the tourniquet can be applied one-handed.
1. Open the tourniquet in such a way, that the band forms a loop. Inser the injured limb through the loop and position the tourniquet directly on the skin just above the bleeding site.
2. Pull band so tight that only the tips of two fingers can be inserted between the band and the skin and fasten without covering the rod clips. If the band is too loose, retighten and re-secure.
3. Twist the rod until bleeding has stopped.
4. Secure the rod inside a clip to lock it in place. Check for further bleeding or a distal pulse. Consider additonal tightening or the application of a second tourniquet if needed.
5. Route the band between the clips and over the rod. Secure rod and band with TIME strap. Record time of application if possible.
